The Call
Husband has been away on military orders, so I've been getting back in the groove of handling things at home. I was on my way to grocery pick-up three days ago when the phone rang. It was an out of state number, and for some reason I felt compelled to answer...and I'm grateful I did.
Earlier in the week we decided to submit our profile to an out of state situation. We didn't feel too much anxiety about it, since we went in figuring our chances were slim. So imagine our shock when I answered that phone call and learned that we were the expectant mother's first choice! I was in complete disbelief, but I was assured that this was real and it wasn't an illusion. I managed to call Husband (despite him being in a field in the rain shooting big guns), and we cried on the phone together.
We knew this was just a first step, though. We received a questionnaire to complete for the expectant mother so she could get to know us better. I did most of it the night it was received, knowing Husband would be passing through town the following night and that it would be ideal to get it finished and submitted as soon as possible. We sent off the email and spent the night wondering what would happen next.
Thankfully, we didn't have to wait long to find out. The next morning we received additional paperwork to complete, and this morning we received the call we have been waiting for -- it's a match!
We know there is a lot that can still happen and that nothing is guaranteed, but what we've heard so far is promising. The expectant mother is very sure about us and her decision right now, and that's all we can ask for. We know there are a lot of steps to come and it is a bit overwhelming to think about what we all will face over the next few months, but for today we are on top of the world.
